A Song for Goro Sumida

I dedicate this song “Asadoya Yunta” to Goro Sumida who passed away on October 25, 2012 at the age of 92. One of my favorite moments with him was hanging out at Hanagasa Inn right before one of their 100th Battalion/442nd Regimental Combat Team annual luncheons at a hotel in Waikiki. That night, I sang “Shimauta” by The Boom, and Goro and his veteran colleagues rocked that night, with 100th Battalion President Robert Arakaki and others dancing katashi with a couple of the waitresses. I can still picture Goro smiling that evening.
