On Sunday, May 31, 2015, I attended the funeral of Jodo Shu Hawaii Bishop Dwight Ryokan Nakamura (6/6/1926 – 3/23/2015) held at Jodo Mission of Hawaii in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a friend of my late grandparents Maurice and Bessie Karamatsu. I enjoyed working with him while I served as Vice President and President of Jodo Mission of Hawaii. Bishop Nakamura was a wonderful example of the practice of Buddhism by the way he lived. He was a very kind and compassionate person, always smiling and thanking everyone. Whenever I was near him, I felt his warm energy. Like many others, I will miss him.
