I met a girl at a coffee shop.
We fell in love. Then we fought.
She thought I lied about being alive.
I cried, “Let’s still try. We can still thrive.”

I wrote this sentence as I was preparing my query letters to literary agencies for my second novel, a historical fiction about a friendship that is born between an Iraqi boy and girl while in a hospital after surviving a suicide bomb.
