On Saturday February3, 2018, I, along with one of my board members of Jodo Shu Hawaii, met with our property manager to go over the construction repairs of our apartment building. Here is a picture of our temple and office building. Worked all day Friday, the day before, until the sun came up for a small concert I have a minority interest in. I posted some deep stuff on my blog and social media about nonattachment and Luke Skywalker just to get my mind off of work. Need some sleep and then back to the grind on my other projects that also need a lot of work to be done.

Awesome and inspiring 95,800 square foot maintenance and cargo aircraft hangar by Hawaiian Airlines on its 21-acre site at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, Hawaii!!! The hangar can accommodate up to five Boeing 717 aircraft at the same time with indoor maintenance and cargo operations. On its lot, Hawaiian Airlines has a two-level office building and 143-stall parking lot. Hawaiian Airlines is one of my favorite airlines because of its friendly service and nice amenities such as its complimentary food and beverages on flights and mileage program with many vendors.

Yesterday, my mom dropped off turkey jook (turkey and rice soup) at my home. I’m super grateful for the thoughtfulness of my mom. I love her! Today, my energy is low, and I’m feeling mentally down even though I received good news early this morning on one of my projects, got a nice email from a new friend and potential business partner, and glad for a couple of decisions I made on two stocks. Yet, I feel down. Strange how we can have these mixed emotions. Thus, my mom’s soup really gave me some comfort today. I will attempt to do some work tonight to lift my spirit! Aaaaaagh, the pleasure of a Japanese pastry called Kamesan, a turtle made of a sweet bun with azuki inside, and a cup of coffee at Watanabe Bakery in Honolulu as I wait for my remote control to be fixed for my 2000 Nissan Frontier truck at my friend’s auto shop, Masaki Auto. After so many years, I finally decided to fix my remote control. I was opening my truck the old school way, use the key. Lol!!!

I used to be in the top 1% with my health examinations, but a year ago, my LDL or bad cholesterol went up into the high-risk zone. Stress from my high-risk endeavors and eating out with not the healthiest foods so I could keep working on my projects may have contributed to this. My HDL or good cholesterol has always been high, which helps, but I wanted to improve, so I’ve been eating oatmeal regularly, as well as brown rice, other grains, and vegetables to get the fiber I needed to take away the bad cholesterol. I also increased my exercise to help raise my HDL. This year, my doctor and I were happy I’m back in the healthy zone. Here I am on the morning of October 14, 2017, about to cook my oatmeal. May good health be with you! The longer we live, the more we can do!

She was also MC for the program, the 2017 ASCE Hawaii Section Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Awards Banquet. Attending the event was my father Richard, mother Laraine, Lara’s husband Ross, and I. We sat on Lara’s firm Parsons Brinckerhoff’s table. In 2007, when I served as a Hawaii State Representative, I worked with community leaders, legislators, and children in passing House Bill 345 into law as Act 23, declaring “September 21st of each year shall be known and recognized as “Peace Day” to promote peace programs, improve international relations, and increase educational awareness of peace.” Hawaii was the first State to recognize a day of peace, a goal I continue to work on through my efforts with nonviolence teachings, Buddhism, and my novels. My friend Representative Ken Ito asked me to come with him to a Mindful Hawaii community meeting chaired by Jimmy Toyama on Saturday August 26, 2017 from 1 p.m. at Kaito Gakko, next to the Manoa Chinese Cemetery. Saw some old friends and one of our Peace Day Hawaii co-founders. There was a presentation by Hui Aloha, a non profit led by James Koshiba that is working on spreading Aloha with events and workshops. They are helping the homeless issue in Honolulu, Hawaii. Marina Piscolish outlined her training course “Toolz For Tough Conversations” for conflict resolution.

Jodo Mission of Hawaii’s Bon Dance on Saturday August 18 and 19, 2017 in Honolulu, Hawaii was a success. It feels so good to support culture and tradition that make Hawaii and our country so unique for all to enjoy! I’m honored to serve as President of Jodo Mission of Hawaii for the past 7 years and board member for the past 12 years.
The food was great with barbecue sticks, saimin, gyoza, chili and rice, andagi (Okinawan donuts), shave ice, and more. The dancers and taiko did performed well. I’m sure our ancestors are happy.

Yesterday, August 3, 2017, I treated myself to Dunkin Donuts as a reward after I finished drafting a 28-page legal and business analysis for a land deal my business partners and I are trying to execute for a start-up company we are building. I worked 3 days in a row at Starbucks in Waipio typing this document for 7 to 8 hours straight a day. Dunkin Donuts recently opened a store near Honolulu International Airport, Hawaii, making its return back to the State of Hawaii. I gave my mom 2.5 donuts today when she came by to drop off food she made.

I attended Jodo Mission of Hawaii’s Obon Services for all of our ancestors on July 23, 2017 with my parents and younger sister Lara. We also prayed to the souls suffering.
The wooden plank with my family name is our Karamatsu family otoba for my grandpa Maurice Karamatsu and grandma Bessie Karamatsu, great grandpa Yutaro Karamatsu and great grandma Shima Karamatsu (immigrated to Hawaii, United States from Yamaguchi, Japan sometime in the 1890s), and ancestors for obon services at Jodo Mission of Hawaii on July 23, 2017.

Here’s a song for you to dance into the new year called “Physical” by St. Lucia.
