Be a student of mental health.

Be a student of mental health. Study your thoughts & emotions. Assess why you think and feel a certain way. Train yourself to be ready for difficult situations with people & events, whether it be death, failure, disagreement, judgment, impatience, etc. These difficulties will come at us sooner or later. The more we exercise our mind on how to best handle life's lemons, the better we become in reinforcing our positive thoughts by our positive actions.

As students of math, we practice numbers, & we still do so in our daily lives in order to make sure we pay our bills & get our returns on investments. As students of English, we are always reading, writing, & speaking, constantly changing & improving our art in communication. 📖

For mental health, we tell our little children to explain what’s bothering them instead of yelling & giving a tantrum. Hello? We adults still give tantrums that are directed at other adults at work & in our personal lives. We need to train our minds to be optimized for its best performance not just when times are good but when times are terrible. Read articles & books about the many practices you can do to maintain a positive mindset. All of us at Positive Masters will also share the practices that work for us. As a community, we can share & help each other to master our inner peace. By doing so, we will better our interactions with others that will spread like wildfire. Together, we can lessen the verbal & physical violence in our world. Yes, world peace is possible. 🌎

I seek loneliness to protect me.

I seek loneliness to protect me. This is a poem about wanting inner peace from judgment and attacks. When your work puts you out in the public, you will get judged, attacked, and punished harsher than if you are quiet and anonymous.

I seek loneliness to protect me.

Hiding my dreams from my enemies.

If I have nothing, then why would anyone attack me for nothing?

Little by little, I make my imagination real.

In time, you can touch it.

Then, you can tell me how it makes you feel.

Part 1 of 3: Live the middle way. From the middle, you can see the light in every dark situation.

Live the middle way. From the middle, you can see the light in every dark situation.

Live the middle way. From the middle, you can see the light in every dark situation.

Part 1 of 3: Live the middle way. From the middle, you can see the light in every dark situation. 😊

Live the middle way. From the middle, you can see the connection between dark and light because from the middle, you can see everything, dark, light, and all the shades in-between. If you can see the light when you’re in darkness, even a glimmer of light, then you can be grateful in your darkest moments. 🌅

We humans are prone to judging others and our experiences. We label people and our experiences as either bad (dark) or good (light). From the middle, you don’t jump to a conclusion that someone is either dark or light, bad or good. From the middle, you don’t jump to a conclusion that an experience is dark or light, bad or good. 🌄

When a person lashes his or her anger at you, you’re tempted to label that person as a dark person. When you’re in the middle, you’ll see the light in even the most hateful person. You go deeper and have empathy for that person who may have suffered deeply at the hands of others. 🙏

For my career, my worst experience was working in a courtroom with an elder judge who was often grumpy and giving tantrums. I was so broken down by this man that my close friend Brandon took me to the beach in the middle of my workday to lift my spirit up. Being in the Vietnam War was his backstory. There was probably more to his story. He would break the law and give leniency to veterans of war. He was always kind towards beautiful women. In contrast, he would slam the book at ordinary citizens, even sending a kid to prison for a number of days for racing his car on a street. Instead of hating the judge like some of the other attorneys, staff, and citizens attending the hearings, I did my best to look deeper to see how he may have suffered emotionally from the war or maybe even by the way his parents raised him. By doing this, I could wish the judge happiness. ❤

Do you get high off of running and walking?

Running gives me the runner’s high with the #endorphins and #dopamine kicking in. 🏃‍♂️

Walking and absorbing the beauty of the sky, clouds, and sunset puts me in a powerful state of presence where I feel a #spiritual and #emotional connection with the beauty of my surroundings. ⛅

Here’s a picture of the sunset in Waikele, Hawaii on March 14, 2019.

Do you get high off of running and walking? 😀

Peace Day with Jeannie Lum

Shedding some tears for peace with my friend and University of Hawaii Professor, Jeannie Lum, a key organizer for Peace Day Hawaii held at SGI USA, Honolulu, Hawaii on September 16, 2017. Peace Day Hawaii briefly recognized me for introducing legislation in 2007 to make Hawaii the first State in the U.S. to  recognize Peace Day on September 21st. I chaired the organization in 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Peace Day with Hawaii Attorney General Doug Chin

With Hawaii Attorney General Doug Chin at Peace Day Hawaii 2017 at SGI USA, Honolulu, Hawaii on September 16, 2017. Attorney General Chin and I met at my office when I was Chairman of the Judiciary Committer in the Hawaii State House of Representatives in 2009 when he was First Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the City and County of Honolulu. Chin made a speech on equal rights. I thanked him for all his work. I’m so proud of him. He’s been defending equality for immigrants from policy moves made by U.S. President Donald Trump.
