Play the ultimate game, in which you can go anywhere.

Play the ultimate game, in which you can go anywhere.

Play the ultimate game, in which you can go anywhere.

They say, “Go to college, get a job.”
“Be clean cut, don’t be a slob.”
So many people showing off what they’ve got.
Some of it’s real, some of it’s not.

Why not be who you are?
Work from your heart and follow your own chart.
Long hair or short hair, who cares.
Play the ultimate game, in which you can go anywhere.

You don’t have control over external things that happen to you, adversity or fortune. The only thing you have control over is how you react to it.

You don’t have control over external things that happen to you, adversity or fortune. The only thing you have control over is how you react to it.

Observe how people around you react to good things. This is an easy observation, they’re generally pretty happy, or at least pleased.

The true test on their abilities is when things go badly. Do they panic? Do they yell? Do they take out their frustration on others? On the other hand, are they calm and collective? Do they move forward in a constructive way? Do they make others around them feel like everything will be okay?

Which type of experience do you enjoy more? Now take a look at how you react to good things and bad things. How do you behave? How are you making those around you feel? Choose your practice, for it will determine your legacy.

Remember when we were young, dreaming of all the things we would do.

Remember when we were young, dreaming of all the things we would do.

Remember when we were young, dreaming of all the things we would do.

Remember when we were young, dreaming of all the things we would do.

We talked outside of my parents’ house really late until the hidden sun’s faint glow turned the skies dark blue.

Now, years later, we can look back and smile for doing all the things we wanted to do.

Ahead of us, bigger dreams, bigger goals. Let’s keep pushing forward, through our ebbs and flow. For as long as we exist, we’ll continue to grow.

While talking with my good friend Brandon Mitsuda, I took a picture of this night rainbow, created by the misty white glow from the big moon in Waikele, Hawaii on Monday February 10, 2020.

Don’t disqualify your positive experiences. Instead, love yourself for your effort and abilities.

Cognitive Distortions – Part 4

Don’t disqualify your positive experiences. For example, when someone praises you, you disqualify it by telling yourself, “They’re just being nice.” Or when you perform well, you tell yourself, “I was just lucky” or “That was a fluke.” No, don’t do this. Instead, love yourself for your effort and abilities. You got yourself to where you are because of you, the good qualities that you have.

I changed my mind regarding watching television shows and playing video games.

I changed my mind regarding watching television shows and playing video games.

I changed my mind regarding watching television shows and playing video games.

I changed my mind regarding watching television shows and playing video games. If they bring joy into your life and help you to alleviate your stress and anxiety, go ahead and consume them in moderation to get that boost of energy that you need to keep working on your dream life.

I hardly ever play video games and rarely watch television programs. I don’t have any video games on my computer, nor do I have a game console at home. About five years ago, I deleted any video game from my smart phone.

This all changed this past Saturday January 25, 2020 when my 9-year-old second cousin E showed me how much he loves the video game “The Battle Cats” by Ponos Corporation (Known as “Battle Nekos,” as named by the founders in Japan), available for smart phones and tablets. He showed me how to play it. The characters are so darn cute, and the battles are fun, like a journey. There’s also funny descriptions for the scenes and characters and motivational comments that are applicable to your life. Playing it was like a tasty medicine that makes you high with pleasure. During the time I played the game, it took my mind off of the darkness that has been clouding my mind and soul: the deaths of those I love, dealing with difficult people and issues, facing prison time for my driving under the influence, opposition against my business projects and career, financial challenges, and other things bothering me. In moderate doses, “The Battle Cats” has recharged my energy to get myself back in the game of business and personal growth. I’m going all-out again after my latest bout with darkness when this past Christmas ended and my sister Mia and her family left Hawaii to return back to California.

The Battle Cats, a video game by Ponos Corporation for your smart phone and tablet.

The Battle Cats, a video game by Ponos Corporation for your smart phone and tablet.

As far as watching television, I avoid the news because of its negativity, but I recently began watching more fictional stories and documentaries that has sparked ideas for my fictional and nonfictional writing and motivated me to keep moving forward on my business projects, personal development, and my dreams for a life of creativity and more time with my loved ones.

So there it is, I changed my life policy on avoiding television shows and video games. In moderation, it can actually be a tool to recharge yourself so you can continue to play your real-life game in your career and personal growth.

Your quality of life is the most important. You can choose your path of purpose and define your success. You can reinvent yourself and stack new skills, knowledge, and relationships on top of your existing ones. You can create value for others by yourself or with a few positive people. Your work is a game because it’s fun, and the people you work with are your friends because you genuinely care for one another.

– +positive masters+, Jon Riki Karamatsu, 1/20/2020 –

On Thursday, January 17, 2020, my mom called my cell phone. Her voice was filled with elation and joy, “Mia got the job at Stanford University!” My younger sister Mia is a trauma care doctor, a partner of a group of medical doctors at California Pacific Medical Center at San Francisco, California.

“Oh man, I’m so happy! I’m so happy for her! This is awesome!” My voiced cracked with joyful laughter.

My mom continued, “Earlier, I heard dad cheer, ‘Wohoo!’ probably when Mia told him the good news!” My dad was talking with Mia on the phone before my mom. For those of you who know my dad, this type of celebratory action by him is extremely unusual. He’s normally stoic and logical, fitting for a former electrical engineer who helped build and fix nuclear submarines and warships at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Mia fulfilled a dream of my mom’s mom, my grandma Ellen Sakai. When my two sisters and I were little, she told us that we should become doctors. She emphasized how important doctors were. Grandma also told many of her other grandchildren this.

One Summer, while I attended Summer classes at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, majoring in political science, I was living with her and grandpa Tadao Sakai at their small home on Citron Street, in the heart of McCully, Honolulu, Hawaii. Grandma and I had another one of those talks about whether or not I would become a medical doctor.

“Grandma, I plan to go to law school.”

“Ah, lawyers are dime-a-dozen,” she answered.

“I’m not going to be a regular lawyer, I’m going to be President of the United States.”

I smiled as my grandma laughed away. “No one knows you,” she said while continuing to laugh, “You have to be like Jon Yoshimura (a Honolulu politician who became the Chairman of the Honolulu City Council and had a segment on the local news station called “Ask a Lawyer” where viewers got their legal questions answered.). Why don’t you become a doctor?”

Years later, when Mia participated in the white coat ceremony at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Grandma Sakai’s face was filled with pride and joy. So was the expression on my grandma Bessie Karamatsu’s face, my dad’s mom. There was immense pride among all of us, my dad, mom, baby sister Lara, and I. To serve others as a medical professional is a great calling. Every single one of us needs a doctor. We all get sick. We all will die. It’s our doctor who will help us when we face every illness and disease, and ultimately, our death. It’s not just the skills and knowledge that our doctor continuously develops, but the empathic and caring words that he/she says to us that will help comfort our suffering.

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi

Just as my sister Mia was embarking on an exciting new path of medical care practice, public speaking, and research and development to create new healthcare services and products at Stanford University, I picked up the book “When Breath Becomes Air,” an incredible memoir by Paul Kalanithi, who at the age of thirty-six, on the verge of completing a decade’s worth of training as a neurosurgeon and neuroscientist, was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. One day he was a doctor treating the dying, and the next he was a patient struggling to live. And just like that, the future he and his wife had imagined evaporated. When Breath Becomes Air chronicles Paul’s transformation from a naïve medical student “possessed,” as he wrote, “by the question of what, given that all organisms die, makes a virtuous and meaningful life?”

As I read “When Breath Becomes Air,” I felt a deep sadness on how Paul Kalanithi’s potential was cut short from cancer, which mixed with the happiness I felt for my sister Mia who will be heading to Stanford University, starting this Summer to expand her medical career as a practitioner and researcher. The connection, Stanford University, made Paul’s story and my sister’s story very real, on top of them being the same age. You see, Paul did amazing work for Stanford University before he died. In addition to his work in the operating room as a neurosurgeon, he was a neuroscientist in a lab at Stanford University, where he worked on neural prosthetic technology that would allow paralyzed people to mentally control a computer cursor or robot arm. I kept thinking on how Mia and many other doctors will continue on their trajectory, something Paul would have loved to do.

I read this book in two sittings. His journey opened my eyes. I was in awe of the work neurosurgeons and neuroscientists do. It wrenched my heart as he struggled with his emotions and logic when faced with extremely difficult situations that brain trauma patients and loved ones of the patients face such as deciding whether to keep a patient alive knowing that the patient could risk losing knowledge of one’s self and everyone and everything around him/her. Without this function, a person loses his/her purpose. The innocence and excitement felt by Paul and his fellow medical classmates were replaced by fatigue, stress, and death after they ventured into their different residency programs at hospitals and medical centers across the country.

Paul’s writing brought me into his world as if I was with him through his every struggle. I loved it when things seemed to be getting better for him and his wife. I chuckled at his humor. When he cried, I cried. I had to pause from my reading numerous times as tears streamed down my cheeks. In fact, I cried as I wrote this article in a Starbucks coffee shop in Waikele, Hawaii packed with people. That’s how impactful Paul’s book has been on me. He wrote it as he was dying, racing against precious seconds. I felt every word of his as if he was talking to me.

In the past, I’ve written numerous times about death and how embracing it can motivate us to be appreciative of everything we have and make the most of our life. However, unless I face my own dying moments, I won’t fully understand what it’s like to be dying, whether it’s quick and instant or slow and gradual. Likewise, none of you will know until it’s your time. Well, Paul, through his writing shows us exactly what he was feeling as he moved towards his death. His experience became my experience. I could see myself in his life and by doing so, I felt myself experiencing death surrounding me. I will forever keep Paul’s book close to me, opening it every time I stress about challenges for my businesses or clients, financial hardship, public ridicule for my failures, and facing prison time for my driving under the influence case, all of which look so small in comparison to dying.

I’ve lost a lot of loved ones over my lifetime. Last year was especially hard with the passing of my aunty JoAnn Matsumoto (My mom’s cousin and a former elementary school teacher), family friend Eric Kanemoto (My soccer coach, Cub Scout Master, Intermediate School teacher for metal shop, and my dad’s close friend. He and my dad coached my soccer teams, led the cub scouting program I was in, volunteered in the parent and teacher association for my Pearl City High School, and worked together on many other projects. They enjoyed talking with each other and the simple pleasures of life), and uncle Glenn Karamatsu (My dad’s younger brother and co-founder of a civil engineering firm in Hawaii). Reading “When Breath Becomes Air” has helped me cope with the deaths of my loved ones.

I love life. I’m extremely grateful to have an opportunity to try many things while I’m alive. I’m super appreciative of my dad, mom, sisters, nieces, nephew, relatives, and friends. And I’m thankful to be able to speak to you. As I move closer towards my death, I hope I’ll be strong, vulnerable, joyful, sad, and loving. After all, I went through it with Paul and felt his breath become air.

Love your life and make the most of it.

On Monday December 9, 2019, I picked up my finisher certificate at the Hawaii Convention Center wearing my finisher t-shirt.

My sister Mia convinced my sister Lara and I to run this marathon in 2008.  I’ve continued running this race ever since as an encouragement for me to continue exercising.

For 2020, I plan to increase my cardio and strength training to the level I was at 2017 and prior.  My business projects have been struggling so I’ve been focusing so much of my time on work and neglected my exercise.  I’m so pumped up to increase my training!

Have fun exercising!

You’ve seen enough death to know that your time could be up at anytime. So work hard on how you want to be remembered as, now!

Accepting your vulnerability that you could die at any time is not something you may want to think about. However, there’s a way you can make it positive. You could look at your future demise as the celebration of your life:

(1) The people you’ve touched with your love and kind gestures;

(2) The positive impact you’ve made on others through your work on a service or product; and

(3) Beneficial content you’ve created for your loved ones and the greater community.

I’ve written down in my life plan, annual plans, and daily plans, the things I want to do for others and the community before I die. I schedule it in my calendar so I can execute most of them before my time is up.

For your fun homework, write down all the things you want to do that will be your legacy for your loved ones and the community. Write down even the craziest things you want to do that would be super impactful, practical, educational, or fun! Next, write them into your life plan, annual plans, and daily plans. Most importantly, schedule them into your calendar and execute on them!

Love you! Sending positive energy to you!

With Warmest Aloha,
Jon

I started +positive masters+ a few months ago because I find great joy writing and designing content to help you keep your spirit lifted as you undergo stress, anxiety, and sadness.

Honestly, working on +positive masters+ has been therapeutic for me, curbing my anxiety and sadness, which increased in the last few years. During my years as a politician and in my work as a lawyer and entrepreneur, I faced some really difficult periods in my life such as dealing with negative people, trying to resolve my driving under the influence case for the past 4.5 years, and undergoing financial hardship after taking on start-ups such as an aviation fixed-base operator company that has been delayed with the government process and opposed by well-financed competitors. Right now, my uncle (my dad’s younger brother) is dying, and I’ve lost several close family and friends this year alone. 💔

Thus, +positive masters+ has been a breath of fresh air for me because of the good vibes I get from sharing the mindset and healthy practices that I use, poems and writings expressing my deepest feelings, and mantra words and designs on the products to motivate you to live as best as you can. I hope they can boost your happiness and counter any stress, anxiety, sadness, or anger that you may be undergoing as much as they do for me. 💓😊

I'm happy to share with you +positive masters+' Holiday Season 50% off sale and free shipping for the entire store from November 29, 2019 to Wednesday December 11, 2019!

Somewhere along our journey of life, we lost our innocence.

Somewhere along our journey of life, we lost our innocence. If you can see the innocent child in the person who is hurting your feelings, you'll be more willing to forgive that person, like you would a child.

Somewhere along our journey of life, we lost our innocence.

If you can see the innocent child in the person who is hurting your feelings, you’ll be more willing to forgive that person, like you would a child. Replace the angry face of the adult hurting your feelings with that of a child. This can change your mindset, a hack that can calm yourself from raging back. A child is learning and molding his/her character. As adults, we can continuously improve ourselves as well. When you remain calm with an unruly adult, other adults and children observing will remember this. They too will have to choose what kind of reputation they want from others – the dark side or the light side. ❤

Be a student of mental health.

Be a student of mental health. Study your thoughts & emotions. Assess why you think and feel a certain way. Train yourself to be ready for difficult situations with people & events, whether it be death, failure, disagreement, judgment, impatience, etc. These difficulties will come at us sooner or later. The more we exercise our mind on how to best handle life's lemons, the better we become in reinforcing our positive thoughts by our positive actions.

As students of math, we practice numbers, & we still do so in our daily lives in order to make sure we pay our bills & get our returns on investments. As students of English, we are always reading, writing, & speaking, constantly changing & improving our art in communication. 📖

For mental health, we tell our little children to explain what’s bothering them instead of yelling & giving a tantrum. Hello? We adults still give tantrums that are directed at other adults at work & in our personal lives. We need to train our minds to be optimized for its best performance not just when times are good but when times are terrible. Read articles & books about the many practices you can do to maintain a positive mindset. All of us at Positive Masters will also share the practices that work for us. As a community, we can share & help each other to master our inner peace. By doing so, we will better our interactions with others that will spread like wildfire. Together, we can lessen the verbal & physical violence in our world. Yes, world peace is possible. 🌎

Start your day fresh! Every morning is a brand new day for you to crush it!

Start your day fresh! Every morning is a brand new day for you to crush it! 🌞

I like to launch my day by being grateful for my existence. I express my thanks for all my loved ones and all the good things I have in my life. Then I brush my teeth, make my bed, and get dressed.

I enjoy making myself a hot cup of green tea, which has L-theanine, an amino acid that gives you a calm feeling combined with clarity and alertness from the caffeine. I also enjoy drinking coffee, but I usually have a cup of green tea first to get the L-theanine in my system. 🍵☕

Next, I’ll have breakfast and review my Google calendar. I input all of my small goals for the day into my calendar. In the evening, I add up all my wins I achieved for the day. 💻

Shown in this picture is our Positive Masters 2nd Logo Women’s Fit T-Shirt and Dream Cloud Mantra 15 oz Mug. You can purchase them at http://www.positivemasters.com ! 🛍️

Are you facing financial challenges? Here are 5 ways to save some money that you can apply in your life.

Are you facing financial challenges? Is it because of a business venture(s) you’re working on or did you lose your job? First of all, don’t beat yourself up. Everything we do has a risk. Nothing is 100% safe. Life is about giving things a shot. You succeed, fail, adjust, succeed, fail, adjust . . . We take chances on opportunities, learn, and evolve. That’s how we grow.

When it comes to managing your money during your challenging times, before you purchase something, ask yourself, “Is this something I want or something I need?” Only address your necessities. Put aside your wants for now. Here are 5 ways to save some money that you can apply in your life:

(1) Walk and travel by mass transit instead of owning a vehicle.

(2) Cancel services you don’t need.

(3) Use coupons and customer rewards and look for sales when buying necessities.

(4) Maximize the goods you own and express your gratitude for them.

(5) Reuse plastic bags and ziplock bags for your trash.

I’m actually practicing these 5 pointers right now to save money after I undertook financial risks with my recent start-up businesses that I have on my own and with my business partners. By downgrading my lifestyle and maximizing small deals and recycling, I lower my stress because I know I’m doing my best with what I can control to undertake my latest journey on my unchartered and often scary adventure. I have other practices that I can share with you later.

Always be grateful for every good thing you have in your life. Don’t let the darkness cover them up. Sending you positive energy!

5 Benefits of reading fiction! 📚📖

There are many benefits of reading fictions such as expanding your imagination, motivating you to be the hero in your life, increasing your empathy, learning different styles of writing, and reducing your stress.

Besides this list, there are many more benefits of reading fiction. These benefits are some that have been beneficial for me. I hope they helpful for you as well!

5 Benefits of reading fiction: 📚📖

(1) Fiction expands your imagination. You visualize the characters & scenes. 😃

(2) Fiction motivates you to be the hero in your life. In most novels, the protagonist faces obstacles to become a hero. Win or lose, you respect the protagonist for his/her tremendous efforts. Likewise, you can do the same in your journey. 👊

(3) Fiction helps you empathize for others. When you read fiction, you empathize for the characters undergoing hardship, an important quality to have in your life and career. ❤️

(4) Through fiction, you learn different styles of writing that aren’t usually shown in nonfiction books. 🖋️

(5) Fiction reduces your stress by taking you into other worlds and into the lives of unique characters. 😊

Smile and the world smiles back!

Smile and the world smiles back! Smiling is contagious and healthy!

Smile and the world smiles back! Smiling is contagious and healthy!

Smile and the world smiles back! 😃

You’ve had a string of bad events. Your outlook darkens and you tell yourself, “nothing is going right.” Then you connect with that friend or even stranger who flashes that bright smile at you, often followed by a warm greeting. You smile back and absorb their friendliness. It’s not all doom and gloom. You feel a bit better as you see some light again.😁

The act of smiling can transform you and the world around you. Research shows us that a smile is contagious and healthy. By smiling, we appear more attractive to others. It lifts our mood, as well as the moods of those around us. Even better, the act of smiling can even lengthen our lives. 😉

When you flash a smile, your feel-good neurotransmitters dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin are all released. This relaxes your body and lowers your heart rate and blood pressure. ❤

Find areas that you have a strong desire to learn. For example, I enjoy reading, writing, creative writing (poems and 2 unpublished novels), government affairs, business law, marketing, graphic design, music (produced concerts in the past) and building start-ups. Speaking wasn’t a favorite subject of mine, but I’ve grown to like it. To overcome my nervousness, I took up acting when I was a teenager up until my early twenties and speech classes while in college. ❤

Being positive is way cooler than being negative!

Being positive is way cooler than being negative! Your daily acts of kindness can put a smile on a person's face, even motivate others to live a happier life!

To achieve world peace, we must start with ourselves. If we can maintain peace within ourselves, others may be encouraged to do the same. If a majority of the human race can be at peace within themselves, only then can we achieve world peace.

Being positive is way cooler than being negative! Your daily acts of kindness can put a smile on a person’s face, even motivate others to live a happier life! In contrast, negative people drain your energy with their anger, impatience, pessimism, complaints, and tantrums. When you maintain peace within yourself, you can handle challenging situations in a calmer manner. Only when everyone is at peace with oneself will we attain world peace. Leave a positive legacy filled with love, compassion, and empathy for the younger generations to follow! 😃🙌

Here’s our Plus Sign Logo Unisex T-Shirt, available at www.positivemasters.com!!! The plus sign design on the t-shirt represents your positive lifestyle. It also represents adding up your daily wins such as your small goals for the day, wonderful interactions with others, simple pleasures, and time with your loved ones! ❤

Exercise your mind daily to be grateful for all the good things in your life!

Every day be grateful for all the good things in your life.

From the moment you wake up until you go to sleep, be appreciative of all the good things in your life. For me, this is one of the most powerful practices. once it becomes a habit, it can power you through your darkest periods of your life.

Exercise your mind daily to be grateful for all the good things in your life. Darkness can strike at any time. It can happen gradually or suddenly. No matter what difficulty you’re facing, there’s always things to be grateful for. 😊

For me, gratitude has been one of the most important lifestyle practices. I start my day by being grateful for having an opportunity at life. When I make my breakfast and beverage, I use my dishes and kitchenware with gratitude, many of which were from my loved ones, some who had passed away. My gratitude practice can make my problems look smaller. The key though is to practice it daily with other positive lifestyle practices such as getting enough sleep, focusing on what I can control, exercise, etc. If I slip and don’t apply myself to these practices, my problems start appearing larger than they should, allowing darkness to cloud my vision. That’s when I have to reset myself or be near a positive loved one who can boost me back up to get back into my rhythm with my positive lifestyle practices. ❤

The only way to know whether you’ll attain your greatest dream that’s very difficult to get is by working at it for a very long time and confronting the negativity that comes with the process. 👊

What you want has a high chance of failure, enough to make you very uncomfortable. The process will cost you money and stress on your mental and physical health. It’ll require at least 7 years of hard work, meaning thousands and thousands of hours of sweat, both mentally and physically. You’ll live on only what you need, spend less time with friends, face negative events and people, and go in and out of darkness facing your demons. Remember, you’re expected to fail after all of this. Would you still go for your dreams? Is it worth it? 🤔😣😯😬

Personally, although it’ll take a lot of grit to weather the emotional and physical pain, I feel it’s worth it. I would rather go for my dreams, instead of wondering what could have been had I tried. Even failing at it gives me an answer that’s more satisfying than regretting on not giving it a shot. No matter what happens, you build yourself up with more knowledge, lessons, skills, and relationships from the journey you undertook. 🙌

You can have a meaningful life through your attitude!

You can have meaning in your life through your attitude! If you have a positive attitude, you can find meaning in your life even under difficult circumstances.

Do all you can to have a positive attitude, a super power that will help you through your darkest times.

Having a Meaningful Life – Part 3 of 3. ❤

You can have meaning in your life through your (1) creativity, (2) experiences, & (3) attitude. ❤

Today, we highlight how your attitude has a role in attaining meaning in your life. If you have a positive attitude, you can find meaning in your life even under difficult circumstances. The foundation of this 3-part article is from Dr. Victor Emil Frankl (1905-1997), an Austrian neurologist, psychiatrist, & Holocaust survivor. He was able to have meaning in his life despite going through the horrors of being imprisoned in a Nazi death camp. His father died of illness & his mother, brother, & wife were killed by the Nazis. Dr. Viktor Frankl’s tragic optimism focuses on (a) affirmation of the meaning & value of life, regardless of circumstances; (b) acceptance of what cannot be changed; (c) self-transcendence in serving a higher purpose; faith in others & in something beyond our realm; & (d) courage to face adversity. 🙏

The following dialogue between Dr. Frankl & his patient, an elderly, depressed man who could not overcome the loss of his wife shows the depth one’s attitude has on one’s meaning in life:

Dr. Frankl asked, “What would have happened if you had died first, & your wife would have had to survive you?” 💔

“Oh,” replied the patient, “for her this would have been terrible; how she would have suffered.” 💔

Frankl continued, “You see such a suffering has been spared her; & it is you who have spared her this suffering; but now, you have to pay for it by surviving her & mourning her.” The man said no word, but shook Dr. Frankl’s hand & calmly left his office. ❤

This conversation brought tears to my eyes. My friends, no matter what you’re going through, no matter how tough it is, you have the ability to see the light & keep moving forward. ❤

Experience things that brings you joy!

Having a Meaningful Life – Part 2 of 3! 👊

You can have meaning in your life through your (1) creativity, (2) experiences, and (3) attitude. Let’s go over experiences. 😃

In addition to your creativity, you can have meaning in your life through your experiences, both good and bad. For instance, when you complete a challenging goal, say running a marathon after a year of training, you feel extremely good! Maybe you spend many months teaching a child math skills. When you see the child solving the math problems, you feel joy! 😊❤ 🤗

Even when you fail at something, you can gain more meaning in your life. Although your failure is emotionally painful, you can become more driven to make your comeback. You try harder or reinvent yourself by trying new things. You learn, grow, and evolve from your failure so you can succeed again! 🙌

On your bad days, just focus on 1 to 3 of the most important things that you need to get done that day and execute on them!

Here’s an article I wrote for Positive Masters at www.positive masters.com, an e-commerce store that provides lifestyle practices, creative writing, apparel, accessories, and fashion to boost your happiness and counter any stress, anxiety, and sadness you may be facing.

When times are difficult, focus on one to three of the things that if you complete, you will fill much better.

On your bad days, just work on 1 to 3 of the most important things that you need to do, and more importantly, by completing them, you know you will feel better. That alone is huge!

On some days, you wake up with less motivation to attack your day. Maybe you’re stressed about the overwhelming amount of work you have to do. Maybe you’re down because things aren’t going as you planned? You’re wondering if something will or will not happen, causing you angst. Are you worrying about a relationship, the break-up of one, or being lonely? The death of a loved may have hit you hard. Maybe it’s because someone yelled at you at work or the critics are attacking you. Heck, it could be all of the above.

You turn off your alarm, wishing you could fade away into a wonderful dream where you’re smiling and sipping a favorite beverage as you overlook the glistening blue ocean with puffy white clouds floating through the teal blue skies. Aaaaaahhh, that would be wonderful!

No, you can’t do that. Not now. So you drag yourself out of bed and freshen up. Then you return to your bedroom and make your bed to get your first win of the day. You tell yourself, “No matter what happens today, I can make my bed, and when I return, it’ll be welcoming me!”

You execute on your favorite practice, gratitude. “I’m so lucky to be alive to have a shot in this universe,” you say to yourself. You’re mindful of all the useful and memorable things in your home and express your gratitude. As you make your breakfast, you use your late grandma’s plate and quietly express your thanks as you think of your grandma. You see items from your other late grandparents and your parents, causing positive energy to pour into your soul.

With your breakfast, you drink green tea for its benefits such as L-Theanine to calm your anxiety and mellow its caffeine, which gives you the calm type of clarity that you need.

In addition to your mindful and gratitude practices, you do a quick self-reflection on all the good qualities you have and how you’re going to apply them to get closer to your dreams of your future. On your worse days, you meditate to clear yourself of all your negative thoughts.

Okay, Now you’re ready to take on the day. However, you power up your computer and stare at it. Damn, you feel nothing.

You ever feel like this? I do. We all have these challenging days because we’re human. We can’t expect to always have those awesome days when ideas flow smoothly and problems get resolved rather simply. Those terrific days when you put in 10 hours of fulfilling work that didn’t feel like work because you were enjoying the process.

On your bad days, just focus on 1 to 3 of the most important things that you need to get done that day and execute on them. That’s all you have to do. When coming up with the 1 to 3 things you need to work on, don’t add up many tiny tasks, instead, lump them into broad categories to fit into those 1 to 3 things you need to complete for the day. It’s psychologically beneficial to simplify what you need to do. We’re telling ourselves, “I got this. I can do this.” Don’t allow the gloomy side of your mind to sabotage your plan by overcomplicating and even exaggerating the work you have before you. For that day, you don’t have to achieve a million things, only on those few key goals you set for yourself. Accomplishing these goals, even if they’re little are huge because every single accomplishment will add up over time. Getting those few things done will also boost your happy chemicals. Praise yourself for this accomplishment!

This is a part of the process of what I do to keep myself moving forward on my not so good days. It works for me. If it can help you in some way to feel better on your terrible days, it would make me happy!

We understand the generations before us when we become them.

[I wrote this article for +positive masters+ at www.positivemasters.com, an e-commerce store that provides life practices, creative writing, apparel, accessories, and fashion to boost your happiness and counter any stress, anxiety, or sadness you may be facing.]

We understand the generations before us when we become them.

I appreciate my late grandparents and parents even more now that I’m older.

During our time from children to adults, we observe our parents and grandparents. The world is new to us. We keep learning and exploring.

As we grow older, our grandparents and their friends fade away and our parents become the seniors. We’ve got careers and responsibilities. Some of us have kids, some of us don’t. It’s at this point that we begin to understand the sacrifices our parents and grandparents went through because we’ve become them. Once, our parents are gone, we have to take on their role. It’s surreal when you think about it, to say goodbye to our parents and their generation. As time marches on, our generation will also fade out, so we have to make the world the best it can be for the younger ones coming up. Time is the most precious resource. Let’s make the most of it. Do the things you want to do with your love your loved ones and love them with all you’ve got!

Sleep is Important for Your Mind & Body.

[I wrote the following article at www.positivemasters.com, an e-commerce store that provides lifestyle practices, creative writing, books, apparel, accessories, and fashion to boost your happiness and crush your anxiety and depression.]

Sleep has many benefits for our mind, body, and soul.

Get at least 7 hours of sleep to have a positive mindset and healthy body.

Sleep is very important to having a positive mindset and healthy body. Health professionals recommend adults to sleep 7 to 9 hours, although some people may need as few as 6 hours or as many as 10 hours of sleep each day. If you’re a teenager (ages 14-17), you need about 8-10 hours of sleep each day. Children need more hours of rest, and much more is needed for babies.

I aim to have at least 7 hours of sleep every night, however, I have to admit that I’m not consistent on this. I’ve succeeded 85 times and today, July 10, 2019 is the 170th day of the year. After working during the day, I often return home and continue working late at night and into the early morning, even until the light of dawn when I’m in the zone. As of last night, July 9, 2019, I’ve made a greater commitment to achieving more restful nights of sleep.

Here’s 5 benefits a good night’s sleep has on your mind and body:

1. Reduces Your Stress and Anxiety. With a lack of rest, your mind and body goes into a state of stress, which causes high blood pressure and a higher production of stress hormones. High blood pressure increases your risk for heart attack and stroke. Increased stress hormones raises the level of inflammation in your body, causing a greater risk for heart-related conditions, as well as cancer and diabetes. Having a good sleep will prevent you from going into this state of stress. Also, ever notice how much more stressed out and anxious you are when you don’t sleep enough? With a full rest, you’re better at attacking your challenges!
2. Makes Your Mind Alert. A good night’s sleep makes you more energetic and alert. When you’re tired, it’s hard to focus on your tasks, especially where a lot of thinking is involved.
3. Improves Your Memory. Sleep plays an important role in a process called memory consolidation. During sleep, your brain is processing your day, making connections between events, sensory input, feelings, and memories.
4. Reduces Your Depression. Sleep affects many of the chemicals in your body, including serotonin. People with serotonin deficiencies are more likely to suffer from depression. Keep your serotonin and other happy chemicals up by going to bed early enough to get those restful hours.
5. Repairs Your Body. Sleep is a time when your body is working hard to repair damage caused by stress, ultraviolet rays, and other harmful exposure. Your cells produce more protein while you’re sleeping. These protein molecules form the building blocks for cells, allowing them to repair the damage.

So do your best to get some deep sleep and the next morning you’ll be ready to crush your day!
